About Terra Inculta & Stride Knight

Terra : Earth

Inculta : Wasteland; Desert

I may eventually explain why I picked that name, but I hesitate to get on that soapbox.

My day job, I work for a health insurance company, BlueCross BlueShield of Massachusetts. It's not exactly the most interesting or riveting thing in the world, but it pays well and it's got it's moments of entertainment. It is in fact, not my lifelong goal to be attached by an umbilical phone cord to a machine. I've been trying to find other opportunities there because I like the company, but we'll see what happens.

At this point in time I almost have my degree in physics, despite several language-class setbacks. I'm not sure that's what I want to do with my life either. Honestly, I'd be a philosopher if I could but reality dictates extreme poverty. I'll figure it out eventually.

I have a range of hobbies, most involving some form of intellectual challenge. I played chess as a child and got really into it, until the point that I reached master level. Then, honestly, at a point chess becomes memorizing openings out to a certain number of moves, and it just gets boring. Many years later I got into Go (called in eastern lands, Igo, Wei'chi, or Baduk) with a friend in college and played it quite extensively. I still play, but I don't let it dominate my life anymore, so it's much more infrequent. I played poker for a while, got pretty good at it, winning large amounts of money and what have you. Too much stress though. Hard way to make an easy living, as they say. Not good for relationships either. Computers, books, movies, and music, have been a constant hobby of mine. My music collection is of ridiculous proportions, as is my movie and book collections. I'm an idiot savant at computers, in that I'm very very good, but I'm an idiot for not using my talent for anything worthwhile.

I have been doing more work with webpages lately, doing some work for various people. I truly enjoy flash, it's my version of painting or drawing. Plus it's fun coding various little fun things everywhere.

Lately I've got into homebrewing, specifically Mead. You know mead, the stuff that vikings drank while they were pillaging and what have you. Good stuff, made from honey, very enjoyable warm. Anyways, long and short, the general lack of commercial mead has led me to homebrewing. So now I've decided to start brewing my own mead, and to a much lesser extent, cider, beer and possibly wine. We'll see how it turns out.

My girlfriend and I have been together for 5 years on St. Patty's day 2006. We actually chose that as our anniversary. Figured it was a good day to pick. I guess I'll propose soon ;-)

If you actually want to see a picture of me you should click here, left is my friend Adam, the one groping us is my roommate Sean and I'm the bear on the right.

 That is all.
